About the Author
Sharika Chauhan is a London-based children’s author and founder of Maya’s Worldly Wonders®, a global storytelling brand inspired by travel, culture and adventure.
Before becoming an author, Sharika spent 17 years in financial services and fintech, working in private markets and holding senior leadership roles, including as a Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of a fintech startup. While her career followed a traditional path, her passion for storytelling and global exploration was always present.
Growing up in Greater London with Indian heritage, Sharika developed an early fascination with travel and adventure. That curiosity led her to explore more than 45 countries, many of them solo journeys — experiences that would later become the foundation for her writing.
The idea for Maya’s Worldly Wonders® came to her during a journey through Malaysia, where she recognised the power of storytelling to introduce children to real cultures, environments and ways of life. Today, every story in the series is inspired by her own travels, with themes of environmental awareness and animal conservation woven naturally throughout.
Since launching the series, Sharika has self-published five books, built a growing presence in schools and libraries, and expanded the brand into educational workshops, travel-inspired merchandise and early-stage animation development.
At heart, Sharika believes that stories can open up the world for children — and that every child deserves to see themselves reflected in the adventures they read.
